View Full Version : Sculptures Defaced by Paintball gun
From the Christchurch Press Feb 17:
Blenheim - Vandals caused up to $20,000 worth of damage to sculptures on a Marlborough vineyard this week. The 4 marble sculptures at Forrest Estate were shot with a paintball gun. The dye from the paint permanently stained them. Police have not caught the offenders, but 2 men appeared in the Blenheim district court on Tuesday and admitted stealing 11 paintball guns.
End.
I'm curious to know who they stole the gear from.

Yeah - when gear get's nicked there is usually a post or something ... we're a small community really in NZ, so unusual.

Alot of people buy overpriced markers from gun shops etc. and they dont play or anything...
The fact that 11 Paintbal markers were stolen..and yes nothing reported on here or PBNZ as it were..To have 11 Pball markers in your possession generally indicates that it was a Field Ops gear stolen..Anybody have idea on who or where from.

Would be interesting to see whether they are charged for firearms offenses or simply vandalism.

maybe someone was setting up field>? and it has been kept quiet?
Mike the article does not assume a relationship between the vandalism and the theft. (However likely)
As water boy said, they could be from a gun shop, might be why we have not heard of it.
Thats not my point...
The question is will they get charged under common law for vandalism/theft.. or statute (i.e. offenses under teh 1983 Arms Act)...
Those in the know will understand why I'm asking the question.
2 men appeared in the Blenheim district court on Tuesday and admitted stealing 11 paintball guns.
This is past tense, we can assume they were at least facing some sort of theft and/or B+E charge. Something heavier would be nice, but unlikely I reckon, depends how savvy the local plods are I guess. It dosent say anything about pending charges either, unfortunately...
I'm not sure it would be a good thing if it was to become an arms act offence, (is it already?) might make us feel a little better having these toe-rags face heavier charges for lifting our markers, but next we'll have to be locking our markers up in cabinets, that would not help the sport much in NZ.
that still doesn't answer my question..
They admitted stealing the markers... but what were they charged for?
If they were not charged under the arms act I'd be interested to know why....
Sorry Mike, hit submit insted of preview, was trying to work the quote thingy out.
You must have replied whilst I was editing...
Cheers

Oneof the sculptures that as damaged was worth $20 000. It actually had to have $2000 knocked of the selling price.

We managed to turn this negative event into a positive boost for Blenheim paintball in the end.
