Hi all,
I was wondering who dose there own maintenance on there markers, or do you take it to some one to service?
What sort of oil do you use, dose it have to be specific oil or is there some thing else that can be used?
Also, what is the best product or thing to clean your marker with?

I think I'd be correct in saying that almost everybody services their own gear.
What they use would be, to a small degree, dependent on the marker. For example, most markers would use a light grease (usually supplied with the marker from new) and I believe it's recommended to use oil on the Ego's.

For my set-up which is a PM6 and my son's PMR we simply use ordinary tissues to do the clean up after cleaning out the barrel with warm water.
Then we use a light grease called Hater Sauce to lube all the orings and moving parts.

Here is a very detailed maintenance procedure (http://forums.matrixowner.com/showthread.php?t=8787) posted up on the Matrix Owner forum that you might find useful, but there should also be specific advise for your particular set-up.

Might be useful to tell us what you have.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Wheelz,
I have a Tippmann 98 custom and a Spyder rodeo both bought of trade me. Looks like they have been sitting for a while. I was just going to use Pasload oil from my nail gun and thought Id ask here first. I have been searching the net and found a lot of different things about what to use. I think the Pasload operates the same as a marker so I’m hoping it will be all good.

I expect it would be ok as long as it's compatible with the orings.
My only other reservation to using oil as opposed to grease is that grease is more likely to stay where it's put whereas oil will blow down the barrel and it doesn't take much to affect the accuracy of the paintball.
eg. a little paint from a "barrel break" will cause the following paintballs to spiral out of control and go anywhere but where they're supposed to.
Try it. It may be fine.

Is it a mineral or silicone based oil?

Not sure, Had a good look but could't find any info, Which is better?

Silicone (synthetic) is better or vegetable based oil. Mineral oil will likely attack the orings.
For the minimal cost I'd play it safe. Here are a couple of options (http://www.kiwipaintball.co.nz/category.html?id=100) from Kiwipaintball.

what I would recommend is finding someone with experience in the 98 and the spider, buy them a few beverages of their choice and get them to show you 'basic' and 'extra' maintance. that way you learn for their exprience and learn any tricks about the gun that can save time/effort.

Wheelz:
with regard to using oil.
use it and then dry fire the marker into a towel with the barrel off for a hundred shots or so. Then get some paper towels and wipe out the breech. dry fire about 20 more shots, check for oil and just repeat until there is minimal (no) oil in the breech.

Actions at Beachlands or Swanson use the Tip as there rental guns so they have a lot of experience in maintaining them, why don't you give them a ring and see if they have a spare hand that can show you the in's and out of your gear. The Spyder is simple and a ton of players around here would have owned one or two in the past.

I see you live in Papakura. There is OGD at Actions Swanson this coming sunday. I know it's a bit of a drive from where you are at. BUT. There will should be a few people out there that can show you how to look after your kit.

Cool man, can any one turn up and how much is it? Also do you know if Actions at Beachlands do thing like OGD?

OGD is like $100.00 and covers air/Co2, fee and a case of Paint (2,000 rounds) and anyone can turn up even players with no kit.
Last time I was out Beachlands way there was talk about events happening but I don't have any specifics. Yankus is the man to PM about that he still refs out that way.
