Two things:

1) Drop in TV @ one of the nelson fields.

2) Apparently there was something on the news regarding some kids doing drivebys in Wellers (according to my workmates) can't find anything on the net but apparently they got arrested. Anyone see this?

(from TV1)
basically some teenagers (looked under age) got there hands of some blue shell paint and a plastic fantastic marker (there was a little bit of footage showing a police officer removing the 12g) and drove from the Hawkes Bay (I think) to Wellington taking pot shots at things

while it was a 'negative' article (in the sence it showed paintball equipment being misused) there was also a little bit of positive from it. the announcer did a talk over of pictures of them in handcuffs and on the ground, basically saying:
Paintball guns are air guns and there are limits on where, how and by whom, they can be used
Big list of things they are being charged with (basically most of the misuse of firearms offences), hopefully this will make some parents get involved in how their kids use paintball equipment.

it is not archived there, nor RNZ and not on TV3

I saw the article on TV.

A few youths starting in Napier and drove to Wellers taking shots at people ... got arrested in Brooklyn (suburb in Wellington).

It was one of those talon pieces of shits ... pump action thing - probably purchased from a gunstore or the like.

Paint was blue shell ... but no box so couldn't tell ya the brand.

if they were underage I hope they charge the SUPPLIER of the gear too, really drive the message home that not to sell paintball guns to minors

I think the vast majority of players now started as minors, but in contrast where able to constrain their behaviour sufficently not to cause trouble or appear juvinelle in mind as well as body.

I totally agree about how Ironlash puts it..Those cheap plastic things.
I know for fact that the Gun shops that sell them have no interest in how or where they will be used..So much for Gun saftey being promoted from Gun shops.

That might not actually be the case - 2 of us are looking into providing weekly courses on paintball safety, info ont he game, marker maintanance and upgrades etc free of charge at the local gun shop as well as building a club around it.

I've already donated a bunch of old magizines to them, and things are looking good. And these places are selling A LOT of markers... which means theres lots of renegade ball going on.

We need to start looking at them as friends/potential partners - make it a win win situation - and theres the potential for something positive.

definitely. I'd add that PB in NZ needs to be seen as an organised sport, and so the more cooperation between fields and others the better. Both for safety purposes and to help the sport in general.
