10 teams confirmed, expect up to a POSSIBLE 18 games per team total.

as well you will see in the link a map to the venue.

first game is 9 am sharp

captains meeting 8.15 am

there are two possibilities
a. full round robin then semis and finals

or

b. full round robin, then split into top 5 and bottom 5 to play round robin, then semis and then finals

i have spoken to all teams captains today, (bar one), all have enough paint sorted, decision on a or b scedule to be made on Friday at the field when i talk to the captains.keep in mind that we aim to be done by 3 pm at the latest on Sunday, as the used paint needs to be cleaned up, and tents packed away netting rolled up. hopefully be done by 5 pm, shower time then off for a beer.

mods can this be stickied please

Couldn't we do same as last year as there is same number of teams and same time frame(2 days). Every team plays every team twice then semis then finals. This way 18 games minimum means better value for money. i.e not happy about paying $400 to fly up to Wellington for possibly only 9 games(if 1st option chosen and we dont make semi's).

MikeE

Most tournaments overseas you only get about 9 games (frodo can you confirm this) ... then semis and finals.

The aim being for quality over quantity.. Then again there are much more teams to juggle into a schedule.

It would be great if we can play every team twice,
then semis and then finals.

Rosey

Well the above time table shows everyone playing each team once. All in 1 day. So why not have this draw on sat and sunday, then at the end of sunday, we can tally up points for the results.

Or if people want to do a Semis / Finals set up, we can run through the schedule without a lunch break on sunday - then at the end, take 1 hr to run some numbers and then go into a final round for the top 4.

Problem is if people wanna get outta there early on the sunday (which i think some people do).

Last year there was plenty of time for 2 rounds.

Why reinvent the wheel.

guys you are missing the big picture, last year there was one field with a sh.tload of reffs, and it was INDOORS, this meant that no matter what time the thing finished, cleanup was possible because its indoors. this year we are not indoors, we are back to basics paintball, "outdoors"(which is where paintball should be majority of the time),,, it is nearly winter,,, we are limited by the amount of daylight available on any given day. and more importantly we are limited by the amount of people willing to stay behind after the end of play on Sunday to help cleanup. if everyone stays and cleans up it will take 2 hours max.no one wants to clean up in the dark! in an ideal perfect world i would so love to be able to to have everyone playing 2 full round robins and then semis and then finals.i soooo know that we all play so little paintball thesze days as opposed to years past, and that we should make the most of us all gettign together,,,but,,, those are the facts, there is no money being made by anyone this time around, and so with the cheap entry fee comes the cleanup...which cannot be done in the dark.

with all things paintball, never will everyone be totally happy with everything.

looking forward to catching up with faces old and the new ones too on the weekend

Hey

Dont take this as critisism cause its not.

45 games @ 7 mins a game ( Which most games dont go full time also allows for teams to get on the field...)

5.25 Hours?? 1 Hour for lunch....

6.25 hours??

So what will we be doing Sunday if its only one round or have I missed something cause I probably have...

Justin

Yeah cant wait, my first real live tournament :)

ps there's some confusion in the Hybrid camp over whether Hybrid A is Hybrid ST or the main Hybrid team... or does it really matter?

pps what was the final field layout? Or do we just wait and see...

ANTSMAN68

at the minimum there will be

round robin=45 games

semi finals for plate= possible 18 games

finals for cup=possible 18 games

= possible 81 games, @9 mins each for game and turnaround =12 hours of games, which breaks down to 6 hours each day , not including lunch,

now that is the shorter option, the longer option =round robin then top and bottom 5 play off in sep pools, adds another 40 games @ 9 mins each is an extra 6 hours, then semis and finals, which would have to be played out on the sat as far as possible and then sunday, as cleanup sunday is 3 pm latest, makes for a full Saturday, which is achievable IF the captains i talk to on Fri think they can have their teams ready BEFORE the previous game has finished, every game.

vijil, yeah hybrid a is st, and yes have to wait an see what the field looks like when finished

finals

to completely reinvent the wheel:
why do we need semi and finals?
After the first day of round robins the teams are devided into top 5 bottom 5 and they each play games (or two or three) against the others in their group. This way we have 10 games per group on the second day (or 20 or 30 if there are multiple plays) less than half the number (if there is one game each) if we had another round robin (even ignoring finals) and the highest score across the 10 games takes it out. (each team playing a minimum of 13 games, with more if there second day is two or three games)
While this would remove the excitement of the 'finals paintball' it rewards the teams that are consistently good across all games. (for the history buffs this is old style NPPL scoring)

regardless of what is decided I think there is the need to be decided soon so if there is any time on Saturday spare it can start then.\

Steven
PS, I would like (I mean I can do if there is nothing else happens) full and detailled (pulls, hangs, players for and against) scores as a trial run on a new system I am thinking of

"regardless of what is decided I think there is the need to be decided soon so if there is any time on Saturday spare it can start then."

its really irrellevant untill Friday as what the majority of captains want is very likely what will happen when i talk to them. You guys shouldnt be worried, we are trying to avoid if possible , unneccessary boring moments standing around waiting....but not at the expense of finishing late on Sunday.

Spare a thought for those of us who will be standing outside all day in what will likely be rain when you are saying... "its only 6 1/2 hours"....

And tbh.. ants shouldn't care about the opinions of a few on the forums, any changes should be up to the captians.. who would hopefully of discussed the matter with their teams.

Also - now is the time to read up on the 2005 Millenium rules...

The millenium series doesnt have an online copy of the rules anymore ... under construction.

Do you have an electronic version that I can host for everyone? I don't have a copy of the 2k5 rules anymore.

Guys this is one of the things that really annoy's me about paintball get the tournament sorted out before the week of the tournament comes round.Ant's not pointing the finger at you as you have stood up and done everyone a favour by running this tourn at short notice and i would like to thank you for that. Now if some teams had seen that they mite only play 9 games they mite have thought of not going but since we dont really have that many tourn's in NZ the more games the better.we easily got through the first rnd in wellington last year and could have finished most of the next rnd on sat afternoon. We come to play ball and look at the wellington stripper's as Justin pointed out.Someone said see what the captain's say as for this one 2 full rnds with or without semi's finals.

cheers see ya's in wellington.

Andy - I'm going to assume that you have never bothered to read the millenium rules.

Rule 6.01
Seven Player teams will play eight preliminary rounds such games will be played against teams within the defined division of each team.

6.04
If there are 8 to 20 teams the top 8 teams will qualify for the quarter final round

6.05
1st plays off against 4th best of 3
2nd plays off 3rd best of 3
winners of those play off for first and 2nd

http://www.millennium-series.com/images/pdf/rules_5-2.pdf

These rules have been available since the origional entry form was published.

This means if there are 10 teams:

2 Will play 8 Games
4 Will Play 14 Games
2 Will play up to 17 Games
2 Will play up to 20 games

Hope thats nice and clear...

Andy
12-04-2006, 23:11
okay thats clear but we are in NZ do you think new teams or old teams would consider going to one of our tournaments to play 9 games?Shit we played that many last sunday. This is a NZ tourn we are using the mill rules as a guide we don't have to run the rnd robins as they say or am i mistaken and all tournaments in NZ will be like this.We are here to play ball the more the better I say.

p.s I hope that's nice and clear.

waylander
12-04-2006, 23:26
If i'm not mistaken in american tourneys it takes 2 days to play 9 games...and cost 2500USD...for entry

So how many games were you expectin to play?

i'm sure after its all said and done their will be teams keen to play pickup games.

Hasn't NZ tourneys always been modified millenium? Or am i totally in the dark...

Or Nz could run tourneys w/out round robin...who ever feels like plyin plays and the team with the most points at the end of the day wins...

MikeE
12-04-2006, 23:30
(sarcasm)
Nah, lets just throw the millenium rules out...

I mean what do Ulrich Star, Andy Scutt, Alvaro Mesquita and Jorn Windler know anyway... they've only been writing the rules that are used in how many countries for how long?

Lets just make it up as we go... that way everyones happy...

(/sarcasm)

Seriously... give us a break.. we are trying to do this right, on a shoestring budget so you guys have someone to shoot over easter...

Ants - you're doing a great job and I'll speak to you soon on MSN I hope.

To the complainers and whiners I think it's time to get some persective. If this was a major event with major expectations then fine, you have a right to whine. For those that realise it's one guy who's stepped up at the last minute to rescue an event that would have bombed and you get zero games, please press the reality button and sack up, play ball and aim to killthe guys at the other end, rather than commenting on systems.

Yes in Millenniums we play 4 games per day in prelims, same in NPPL. It sucks but they are big event where you test the best. Most events in the UK you get 8-10 games, one gives 14 if you're particularly lucky.

So sack up and shoot fools and laugh at Josh, you know it makes sense ;)
