My only question is whats with allowing someone to play in just goggles (that dont even look paintball approved) with no face or ear protection? To me that's just outright irresponsible.

I guess it's because some of the RAM guys were there? They'll play 250 cal. wearing $2 shop sunnies if you let them.

I like the umbrellas and the sheilds, surely a hit on carried equipment is still eliminated?

Rosey- I believe you had to tag the player or their marker regarding the shield... with the umbrella guy well not long after that pic i saw a wall of paint hit him and the umbrella :) I'm sure you can see by the photo and person why that would be ;-)

Vigil- The Ram Guys were wearing goggles that met or exceeded the required ATSM standard and the group in question were awesome guys! I'm looking forward to playing more with them.

Staticman- See above comment, the Gogs were either paintball masks without the face and ear armour or exceeded the ATSM standard.. ie were Milspec.. considering these guys usually use rubber balls i believe they're kinda conscious of eye safety.

I disagree re you irresponsible comment, they were safe and good chaps, It was only a few years ago that people still played in tourneys with half masks.. I still do regularly and apologize if me taking photos wearing only a half mask is irresponsible in your opinion, but i will continue to do it... It aint the law to have ear and face Armour.. its individual preference or the preference of the persons running an event... as a side note 95% of players were wearing full masks and i find it typical that you had to point out something that is slightly negative in your P.C view of things.

I did not see or hear one person at the event winging moaning or upset they all had fun and were all good sorts.

This is my own opinion, I had no financial interest in the event, and instead of playing decided to photograph it.

Just because something is not played using the rules you prefer it doesn't make it wrong....

Thanks all that attended for a great weekend and opportunity to take some great photos.

I've played with just an eye mask - was kinda nervous but didn't really need to be. Definitely wouldn't do it in speedball! It's all good in magfed or whatever. I've seen a bunch of stuff from the RAM guys - they aren't normally that safety conscious in reality. They'll wear unsealed airsoft glasses while using .68s for heavy support. I like the idea of RAM but that just seemed silly.

Still, so long as the guys you played with were all good, it's all good by me. I did hear something a while ago about tactical goggles however saying that even though they're ATSM rated, that's not a good rating system for paintball as it doesn't (apparently) take into account that paintball gear needs to take multiple hits over time without the lenses popping out or degrading. The standards are designed to handle one impact and assume the lens will then be replaced. At least that's what I heard so it might be completely wrong.

Probably one for another thread.

lol my PC view of things? What does PC have to do with any of this? On that same note what does the law have to do with it. Im talking about promoting the safety of all those involved in an event. No ear and face protection is far from safe, personal preference or not. Were supposed to be responsible as regular players and allowing that sort of lax care for safety just doesn't seem right to me.
Yes players can be good chaps and be safety wise in a lot of respects, Im not saying they arnt. Im just glad that eye gogs only will never be allowed at my club.

Looked like a great time and Ric and the Cantab lads really had a blast .

I personally wouldnt allow that sort of eyewear ( without full face mask ) at my events just because I am responsible for safety and have to be PC when it comes to OSH etc .

Please dont take my comments as negative as they are not intended to be ( PC disclaimer lol)

As I stated before it was a small minority wearing gogs only, that met or exceeded the required standard they werenot unsafe.

I personally didnot feel anyone was being unsafe, adequate eye protection WAS worn.

So I ask you what is iresponsible?

All markers were checked and Chroneyed (i saw that happen) there was no Lax attitude to safety...

I dont have to agree with your opinion...

I just got the impression from your post that RAM Paintball isnot P.C or there personal decision regarding addequate PPE for that matter... I may have interpreted your post wrong.. :)

The event was a professionally Run event, Run safely.. There was qualified first aid staff on site with adequate training, a health and safety plan in place, and extensive planning put into place by the orginizers

I dont disagree that all safety steps were taken eg cronie checks, semi only modes etc. I just do not believe eyes only protection is adequate for paintball .68 cal or RAM. Our eyes arnt the only things that can be permanently damaged by a paintball. Yes eyes only protection was accepted a few years ago, so was un labed and untested HPA but look at were we have come since then.
I just cannot see why a person would risk there own safety when a full face mask is so easily available.
To answer your question "what is irresponsible?" To me it is allowing a person or persons to expose them self's to potential harm when such harm is easily avoidable.
Regarding RAM being PC or not, based on those pics I would have no way of knowing who is shooting .68cal and who is shooting RAM so cannot be bias one way or the other.

As a side note I think its fantastic that H&S plans were written and put in place, I think all events should have a H&S plan (as I know a lot at this point dont) I am a qualified risk management assessor so know how easy they are to do and action.

In this same line and as a option to anyone who needs, I am happy to write a Risk management plan for your event if you would like. Just PM me and give me some details and I will gladly put one together and send it back to you.
