With Chicago going off (as always) and the NXL having some of the higest scoring games in several events there is a fair bit of expectation around the next event in August ...

Combine that with the NXL rumors surrounding LTZ and others it could prove to be rather interesting.

So what are your thoughts and idea? I've attached the field design to provoke some thought and discussion :)

Go wild kids ... I'll add a poll when we're a little closer so you can say who you think will take it this time.

That field looks wicked to play. Someone win Lotto quick and we'll buy the LTZ spot.

I'm loving the dorito side ... think that will play faster than the snake side this time (the V's are pointing the wrong way).

After watching the vid's on PB Star (www.paintballstar.com) I have to say that I am not convinced on the whole "full auto" thing for NXL ... we've gone from aggressive moving to a kind of "sit and shoot" mentality.

Thoughts?

I have noticed that the big pile of cans around the X seems to be the norm on Xball fields. I would think this would cut down quite a few of the lanes and they would naturally have to move more. I think because its capped 15bps, it kinda evens out the playing field as to its not a matter of how fast your fingers can go, but more a matter of how well you can play.

I reckon a bunch of cans around the X would have been a real nice at the Nelson XPS, those lanes were just huuuge.

The idea behind that is as you've mentioned, to cut down the lanes. With 15bps ramping you'd get cut down getting out to the corners without them. As it stands there are a few very small lanes towards the corners/snake and people get shot going there.

Yeah, Nelson needed something to fill the middle but people were still making snake and snake corner as well as dorito corner.

Poll added (a little late as the event starts tonight NZ time)

So who will finish 2nd at the event? Poll closes on Sunday NZ time :)

This is the interesting one ... and the rumors and comments that come out of this event will help shape the future. Remember this is the first time with no Legacy or LTZ.

Just to see if anyone actually reads the polls before voting :)

Normal polling will resume with the next one

Scores from the 1st round of NXL games:

Ironmen thump Ultimate 13 to 1
Philly beat Raiders 9 to 4
XSV beat Aftershock 9 to 5
Trauma sneak past Dynasty 9 to 8 in overtime
Legion ease past Hurricanes 9 to 6
Naughty Dogs limp past Strange 7 to 6 in overtime

Infamous and X-Factor both have byes in the first round.

Interesting that none of the Open Class teams moved up to NXL to cover the 2 empty spots.

Final score:

Legion 8 v Dynasty 6

season standings:
Place Score team
1 365 Los Angeles Ironmen
1 365 DYNASTY
3 340 Boston Red Legion
4 315 X-Factor
5 285 Oakland Infamous
6 255 Philly Americans
7 230 Detroit Strange
8 225 Jacksonville Raiders
9 210 Chicago Aftershock
9 210 Seattle Naughty Dogs
11 195 Sacramento XSV
12 140 New York Hurricanes
13 125 Baltimore Trauma
14 85 Ultimate

Assuming that they simply drop the 15/16th place points, rather than rework the scheme.
Based on this there are 4 teams with a hope of taking the title:
Los Angeles Ironmen, DYNASTY, Boston Red Legion, X-Factor.

it still holds with 12 teams (assuming there is nothing special with the scores) if Dynasty and Ironmen finish bottom two they are on 400 and 405 each. If winning is 100 points means the cutoff is 305points going into the last round, or X-Factor.

I wonder if Dynasty will take it and not win a tournament (i.e. finish 2nd to 5th, and higher than Ironmen). The contrast between internet chatter and that relating to the TonTons last year will be interesting.

S
edit for 12 teams

And with only top 12 going to World Cup this year....
