I've just started rifle shooting at the range in central auckland - pretty happy witht he results.. haven't shot anything other than paintball markers for about 10 years now and got a 2cm grouping of 15 shots at 50m range with a .22, would like to do better on that.

Rifle was a savage synthetic .22, not sure of the scope, shooting prone.

Keen to get into pistol shooting as well (but its a mission to get those endorsemetns on your licence).

Is there anyone else involved in other types of shooting.

Last time I looked into pistol shooting, it wasn't really a mission (licence wise) it was the amount of time i had to commit to it.
It's the club that will enable you to get the licence, but you have to enter a certain amount of comps per year, and shoot fairly regularly.
Thats how they assess weather your the right type of guy to have a pistol.

This was a few years ago now, and at the newtown (wellington) range.
This is of course my own experence. I don't know what it's like now.

I have sold most all of my rifles, get this to pay for my Nexus ego.
I had a Marlin 30/30 lever action, and a mossberg 12G pump.
Both were very nice to fire.

lol rabbits with 270, may as well use a Barrett :)

my shooters r
7mm08 ruger stainless with burris3/9 x 40 ballistiplex
22 ruger 10/22
just sold 25/06 ruger med barrel with burris 4.5/14 x 40 ballistiplex , Ethan headshot 2 deer with it, and i clean missed a magpie at about 250m, which figures. :)

the 7mm08 has put down around 6 or 7 deer(Fallow) this year, one of them was Josh shooting sitting/kneeling at 275 m(ranged with laser), on the run in the skull, true story.

have owned 3 different ex army SLRs, ruger mini 14, bsa monarch 222, mossberg 12g, browning abolt 308, tikka 243, 2 x 25/06 rugers,5 differnt ruger 10/22s, an prolly others, but then i found paintballs :)

I was into indoor small bore quite a while ago. Used to really enjoy it and traveled around a bit entering competitions.
Gave it up when we had first child as I couldn't spare the time or $$.

Competed for about 3yrs.
It's the kind of sport where it doesn't take that long to be able to hit an inner bull on a semi-regular basis (maybe 6 months or so) but the challenge was to become consistent.
I was amazed at how your frame of mind or just the way you're feeling on the night can influence the results. And, believe it or not, fitness.
You may say; "But you're not doing anything."
True, but taming your breathing is the hardest thing to overcome.
Lie there with a heavy rifle in a sling and take too long get your shot away and see the muzzle bouncing up and down with every heartbeat. It's infuriating.
You literally have to lower the rifle down, breathe in and out for 30 secs and then resume the position. Does wonders for that frame of mind, lol.
Often thought of taking it up again but limited $$ spread between paintball and smallbore? I think not.
